Greater St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 16.
On January 7th, the Skills Center in St. Peters began hosting its first program course to teach people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the skills needed to gain employment in roles that require knowledge of the Salesforce platform. This first-of-its-kind program will help people with disabilities looking for a career in tech learn the Salesforce skills needed to pass the highly regarded Salesforce Administrator Certification Exam.
Students attend daily sessions at the Skills Center and utilize Salesforce’s unique online learning program, Trailhead, to continue learning outside of the classroom. Local consultant and Salesforce expert, James Page, is advising the Skills Center and assisting in developing course materials and connections within the local Salesforce community.
“Every person I know in St. Louis that has at least one Salesforce certification is being recruited to fill open positions with some of the best companies in town,” says Page. “The demand for these positions is so high, and the students that attend the Skills Center’s Salesforce program can immediately begin to fill this need.”
With a nation-wide low unemployment rate, high turnover in tech jobs, and Salesforce's growth in the St. Louis market, it is increasingly difficult for companies and nonprofits that use Salesforce to find and keep the talent they need to effectively execute their Salesforce initiatives. The Skills Center aims to fill this gap with a skilled talent pool of very able men and women ready to make an impact.
Todd Streff, executive director of the Skills Center, understands that Salesforce skills alone aren’t enough to be successful in the workplace. “Our programs at the Skills Center are built with the students in mind—what they need to succeed and feel confident as they begin their new careers,” Streff explains. “We spend a lot of time developing soft skills like workplace communication and collaboration. We also have a benefits case manager that helps individuals plan toward full-time employment and a more independent lifestyle.”
Salesforce is the world’s #1 customer relationship management (CRM) platform. Its cloud-based, CRM applications for sales, service, and marketing are used by more than 150,000 companies around the world. In 2015 Salesforce launched Trailhead, a fun and interactive way to learn the Salesforce platform and prepare for their highly regarded certification exams.
The Skills Center is currently seeking local companies and organizations who use Salesforce to place graduates into Junior Administrator roles upon completion of the program. The Skills Center is also currently accepting new students in its current Salesforce and Manufacturing programs.
