A solar agreement announced this week between Bank of America and the NRG Energy Company Reliant will provide renewable energy to hundreds of Texas facilities, according to a July 1 Saur Energy International story

The agreement, Bank of America's first 10-year structured renewable energy agreement with Reliant, will provide solar-powered electricity through the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the story said.

The renewable energy will provide electricity to 345 facilities, including office sites, financial centers and ATMs, while Bank of America will receive 160,000 megawatt-hours of electricity for its Texas operations annually, along with Green-e-certified renewable energy certificates, according to the story.

"Supporting utility-scale solar energy projects like this builds on our commitment to responsible growth and reduces our operational impact on the environment," Andrew Plepler, global head of Environmental, Social and Governance at Bank of America said. "By implementing new and innovative renewable energy structures, we demonstrate our strong commitment to carbon neutrality, secure stable renewable electricity at a favorable cost, and provide an economic and environmental benefit to the communities where we work and live."

The agreement is expected to be part of Bank of America's commitment to buying "100 percent of electricity from renewable sources and builds on the company’s carbon-neutral efforts," according to the news story.

Bank of American is an international investment banking and financial services company with headquarters in Charlotte and a major office in Dallas. Other Bank of American major officers are located in New York City, London, Hong Kong and Toronto

NRG Energy maintains headquarters in Houston and in Princeton, New Jersey.

"The project will be located in west-central Texas and is expected to be operational in mid-2022," the story said. "In the interim, the bank's Texas facilities will receive electricity and Green-e-certified RECs from other renewable energy projects contracted by NRG."
