Samsung Austin Semiconductor has recently disclosed the substantial influence their operations have had on Central Texas throughout 2023. The report underscores an infusion of $26.8 billion into the region, nearly a twofold increase from their economic impact in 2022.

A global frontrunner in the development and distribution of semiconductor technology, Samsung Austin Semiconductor experienced rapid growth in demand during 2023, leading to unprecedented levels of investment in the sector. Since its inception in 1996, Samsung has funneled close to $18 billion into operating two fabrication plants (fabs) in Austin, Texas. According to a press release by Samsung, this substantial investment renders it one of the largest direct foreign investments in United States history. This financial commitment to Central Texas has spurred the creation of thousands of jobs within the region.

The press release indicates that Samsung Austin Semiconductor has directly contributed to the creation of 5,322 jobs while also indirectly generating 12,344 jobs within Austin, Texas. The two fabs located in Taylor and Austin dispensed over $1.7 billion in worker salaries during 2023, which yielded $245.6 million in annual revenues for local taxing districts throughout that year. Additionally, the company donated over $4 million towards supporting local charities within the area.

"Since 1996, Samsung Austin Semiconductor has been an integral part of the Central Texas community by being drivers of job generation, economic impact, and engagement within the community," stated Jon Taylor, Corporate Vice President at Samsung Austin Semiconductor. "With a $26.8 billion economic impact, this number represents more than just dollars and cents. It represents people with GEDs to PhDs finding new opportunities in their careers and being able to pay their bills, provide for their families and loved ones while working toward their financial and personal goals."
